Crystal Palace Complete Signing of Borna Sosa in £3 Million Deal
Crystal Palace have confirmed the arrival of Borna Sosa, with the Croatian international joining the club for a reported fee of £3 million. The left-back has put pen to paper on a three-year contract, marking the latest addition to Palace’s summer transfer business.
The 27-year-old defender, who has earned caps for Croatia at senior level, arrives with a wealth of experience from several top European leagues. Sosa started his football journey with Dinamo Zagreb, where he developed through the club’s renowned youth system before breaking into the first team.
In 2018, Sosa made the move to Germany, signing with VfB Stuttgart. During his time in the Bundesliga, he made over 100 appearances, establishing himself as a dependable and creative presence on the left flank. His attacking contributions and ability to deliver quality crosses drew praise, and his form caught the attention of major European clubs.
In 2023, Sosa transferred to Ajax, one of the Netherlands’ most decorated clubs. However, after just a short stint in Amsterdam, he was sent out on loan to Torino in Serie A for the 2023–24 season. During his loan spell, he made 20 appearances for the Italian side, putting in solid performances but not quite convincing the club to trigger their option to buy.
Following his return to Ajax this summer, Crystal Palace stepped in to secure the talented full-back’s services, completing a move that brings depth and experience to their defensive ranks.
Speaking after completing the move, Sosa expressed his delight at joining the South London side:
“I’m thrilled to be here at Crystal Palace. I’ve heard so many great things about the club — from the atmosphere at Selhurst Park to the spirit within the team. I can’t wait to get started, meet my new teammates, the coaching staff, and of course, the supporters.”
The Croatian’s excitement was matched by Palace chairman Steve Parish, who welcomed the defender to the club with high praise:
“We’re delighted to bring Borna to Crystal Palace. His career history and international experience show the kind of quality he brings. He’s a dynamic player who will strengthen our options and add to the depth of our squad.”
Sosa’s arrival is seen as a strategic move by the club to bolster their defensive unit ahead of the new Premier League campaign. With his blend of top-flight experience in Croatia, Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy, he brings a level of versatility and maturity that could prove invaluable throughout the season.
Fans of Palace will be eager to see how the Croatian fits into manager Oliver Glasner’s system. Known for his forward runs and precise delivery into the box, Sosa has the potential to offer an extra dimension going forward, especially in link-up play with attacking wingers and midfielders.
As the club continues its preparations for the upcoming season, the signing of Borna Sosa represents a clear statement of intent — blending international pedigree with value and long-term potential.
