After 13 seasons in the NFL, former Detroit Lions first-round pick Ndamukong Suh has officially announced his retirement.
Suh, who last played in 2022, shared the news on social media along with a heartfelt tribute to his late father, who passed away a year ago.
Before he passed away, my father gave me one last piece of advice: “It’s time to move on from football. You’ve accomplished everything you aimed for. Now it’s time for the next chapter,” Suh shared about his late father, who died on July 12, 2024.
That conversation stuck with me. So today, exactly one year later, I’m fulfilling that wish, Suh added. I’m officially retiring from the NFL.
Suh was selected as the No. 2 overall pick by the Detroit Lions in 2010 and played five seasons with them before joining the Miami Dolphins in 2015 as a free agent, where he spent three years.
He also played for the Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Philadelphia Eagles. He earned a Super Bowl ring with the Buccaneers in 2020.
Throughout his career, Suh received five Pro Bowl selections and five All-Pro honors, including three first-team nods, and was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2010.
The former defensive lineman recently revealed plans to launch a podcast titled “No Free Lunch.”
According to the show’s description, Suh will delve into how top athletes build lasting wealth and what lessons can be drawn from their experiences.
Each episode will feature conversations with athletes, experts, business leaders, and regular contributors about their personal paths to success, along with discussions on current business trends — all viewed through the lens of sports.
